Barguzin District



The Barguzin (Barguzinsky) district was established on December 23, 1923.
Barguzin village is the Barguzin District Centre.

Barguzin village is located in the northen part of Barguzin valley in 50 km from lake Baikal.  There is distance from Ulan-Ude (the capital of the  Buryatia Republic)  315 km.

Barguzin  was populated mainly by political prisoners (Bolsheviks, Mensheviks, Narodovoltses, Democrats, Decembrists  and others). Among them there are Mikhail Kueckelbecker  N. Tyutchev, Breshko-Breshkovskaya, Linev...

With its rich history, beautiful nature and development perspectives, Barguzin is unique. Barguzin district is one of the most attractive tourist destinations at Baikal.

Barguzin is not only a geographical locality but the special aura of sacred places that strikes you with awe as you find yourself nearby. The number of unique nature’s creations is so great here that Barguzin ought to be ranked among the wonders of Russia one day.   

 

The Svyatoy Nos peninsula is the only large peninsula on Lake Baikal. Tourists enjoy making a tour of the Holy Nose peninsula.   

 

People who have visited the park even once call it ‘Tchivyrkuisky dream’ or ‘Pearl in the crown of Baikal’. About 290 terrestrial vertebrate species and over 240 bird species inhabit the territory of the national park.   

 

The Barguzin District in Buryatia is located along the eastern shore of Lake Baikal.

The old Barguzinsky Cemetery is a monument of federal significance and is located in the centre of the Barguzin settlement in the Barguzinsky District, the Republic of Buryatia.   

 

Ushkany Islands archipelago is a part of the Zabaikalsky National Park area since 1987.   

 

The Ininsky Stone Garden is a unique natural phenomenon. It is situated in the south-western part of the Barguzin valley where the River Ina flows out of the Ikatsky range   

 

One of the historical monuments of Barguzin is the Transfiguration Cathedral of the Saviour.
