The road cults play the key role in the sancralization of the opened up area by the natives of a certain region. The main patrimonial cults are usually situated at hardly accessible area. According to the certain rules, some members of the family and other people are not allowed to visit such places. That is why some cults have their substitutes in the accessible zone – near the roads. On the road while crossing the sacred area, the natives are able to communicate with the objects of worship without any mediators by means of prayers and ritual activity.
The main markers of the road cults may be the following objects: a mountain, a spring, a stone or a tree. And the road unites them all into a sacred whole: man – road – cult.
The main fulfils two functions: realizes the continuity of time (past, present. future) and space (the beginning and the end of the way). And the cult object (mountain, stone, etc.) serves as a mediator. That’s why any traveller is influenced by the supernatural power.
The reason of starting the way by the traveller is important as well (e.g. business trip, wedding, hunting, etc.). The travellers ask the spirits for help in their business.
So, the man, passing by the cult places somehow gets into the psycho-energetic dependence of their “masters”. Moreover, as natives say, if a person applies to the spirits neither mentally nor verbally, they may pursue him for a long time. The spirits of the ancestors expect respect and worship from the descendants, and getting it, allow them to cross the sacred area. These ritual actions reflect the traditional culture.
